Bald Eagle photographed at Collinsville, CT
An adult sat on a bare limb above the water, turning its head slowly to track movement in the shallows before dropping down out of sight. The clean white head and tail mark it as at least five years old, as younger eagles are mottled brown and take that long to reach full adult plumage. Bald Eagles were nearly gone from Connecticut in the 1970s, and now nest along the larger rivers and reservoirs again, which makes a summer sighting like this one unremarkable in the best possible way.
